How to add a WordPress favicon to your site

Let’s start by explaining for a little bit what a favicon is. For sure you noticed those little icons displayed next to a website’s name in your browser’s tab, well then, a favicon is just an icon or a graphic image that is usually associated with a site or a particular post or page. Even though this is the point where they were originated, WordPress favicons are used also in your browser’s bookmarks or iOS home screen buttons.

Using favicons can greatly improve your brand recognition and will for sure help users find your business way more easily.

How do I upload my favicon?

In order to get started, you have to go to Appearance > Customize in your WordPress dashboard.

Once you are here, navigate to Site Identity which can be found in the main section of the Customizer.

In some themes, it may be moved from the main section by the theme developer and it is usually found in the Header like I am showing you below.

Here, you will scroll down and you are going to click on Select site icon button.

Once you click on the select site icon, the WordPress Media Library will open, and here you are going to have two choices, either select an existing image or upload a new one. After you chose your image, click on it and go to the bottom right corner and click on Select.

Don’t worry if your image is not a perfect square, in the next screen you will have the opportunity to crop it.

Don’t forget to Save and publish once you are done.
