Customizing Contact Form 7

Contact Form 7 is one of the many options for WordPress forms but is one of the oldest and most popular. It has over 5 million users and it clearly has some interesting and helpful features:

  • you can easily customize the form fields;
  • its’s free;
  • using the shortcode you will be able to easily insert your form wherever you need to;
  • you can create and manage multiple contact forms in the same time;
  • it supports all kinds of anti spam filtering and captcha;
  • it has extensions that are going to help add functionality.

To continue, let’s jump right in the subject at hand, how do we actually make a new contact form and customize it?

Firstly, log in to your WordPress Admin dashboard and from there go to Contact – Contact Forms – Add New.

As you can notice, the tabs above the text area have many useful tags that are going to help to customize your form. You will be able to insert any element you wish by using the proper tag, even though, the text area already has a basic collection of tags.

To continue, let’s try to add a drop-down menu. Click on the tag that writes drop-down menu. Things are pretty intuitive once you open the tag. After you put down all relevant info click on Insert Tag.

You can follow the same steps for checkboxes for example.

Next, we are going to check the mail template and see what we can customize here also.

You are also going to be able to customize and edit the Messages. You have some standard messages but if you want to change them you can easily do it.

After you did all the customization you had in mind click on Save and copy the shortcode in order to integrate your form wherever you need it to be.
